First Days at Home

Judi is thrilled to be back in her home with her family. Here are a few excerpts from Mike's daily updates:

*Our first full day at home has mainly been a day of rest. Judi slept 13 blissful hours last night! We are told to be patient, rest frequently, restrict large groups, and be positive. Judi loves being home. She is relaxed and positive.

*Last night, I ordered something delicious for dinner to make the first night special. While giving the restaurant my credit card, Judi chimed in knowing my American Express card number by heart. That might be scary!

*This morning Judi and I went on a couple of field trips. Her coping with new situations was good and recall of intermediate detail the best yet.

*Judi sat down to the piano, and surprising herself, played the hymns very well!

*Today was a wonderful Sunday. Thank you for fasting and prayers. Judi attended Fast and Testimony meeting.

*Judi drove her car today and is perhaps an improved driver!

*They say a week or month at a time, but I think that we see daily progress.

*Slow and steady progress...Anyone who sees Judi notices how good she looks and assumes all is well. This is not the case with her memory. Simple, non-complex discussion is best.

*Her memory is slowly improving, but I am convinced there is some improvement. Thanks to all who help through thought and deed.

Through this experience, what shines through is Judi's beautiful heart and character. She is loved and admired by so many. What an amazing woman she is!

Tuesday Evening Update

Family and Friends,

Judi comes home tomorrow, 19 days after being admitted to the hospital. She has described the journey thus far as a wild ride!

In every aspect, Judi has improved. She has seen great improvement in her physical tasks. Not surprisingly, the memory is the most difficult, but there is improvement in that area as well.

Although Judi will be home, visits should not occur yet, except for scheduled therapy and some invited family members. Visits, especially those unplanned, can have a very disturbing effect. Thank you for understanding.

As a family, we appreciate all of your faith, prayers, and good will. We are indeed grateful to the Lord for blessing Judi and each of us.

Sunday Update from Mike

Dear Family and Friends,

Sunday was a busy day for Judi.  She is counting the days and remembers that Wednesday is the day she can come home!

Judi’s state of alertness is improved.  Katie just returned from Mexico and had not seen her Mom for a week.  Katie was very impressed at the progress.  It is harder to notice when seeing Judi 5 times a day!

Next Sunday, February 2nd, is Fast Sunday.  Our ward is remembering Judi.  We would like to invite family and friends to do the same. Thank you!

I am anxious to have Judi home!

Update from Mike

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your well wishes, faith, and prayers offered on Judi's behalf.

Many have asked what can be done to help:

#1: Please continue to honor our request for NO visits at the hospital. Well-intentioned visits do not help at this time and confuse and discourage Judi.

#2: Judi loves to see photographs of friends and loved ones. Dropping off a note in the box on our front porch is great. It is even better when the note contains photographs that she can review and then put a name with a face.

#3: Sophie - Thanks to all who are helping in many ways with Sophie. She remains Judi's number one concern!

On the bright side:

Judi is improving slowly. Her body is great, but her memory is lagging behind. Those who cannot remember well feel inadequate and inferior knowing that they have been brighter in the past.

Thank you for your friendship and love,

Mike and Judi Bourne

Judi Updates

Judi is continuing to improve and make great strides each day.

She has now moved to the rehabilitation floor at St. Mark's. She will remain there for the next two to three weeks and then will hopefully go home.

Physically, Judi has seen a lot of improvement. She can walk unassisted, ride an exercise bike, and even played a little soccer with Thayne. She is also able to feed herself and perform simple tasks.

She still struggles with her short-term memory, but her family is seeing steady progress. Just this morning, Judi was able to tell Mike where she was and why she was there without him having to tell her. This is a first!

The best news from the past few days is that Mike, and the other family members who spend time with Judi, really feel that Judi's personality is shining through. She is constantly asking about family members and expresses concern and love for them. It is so encouraging to see the elements of Judi's beautiful personality returning.

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray, fast, and express concern for Judi. Our family is strengthened by your words and kindness.
