Our loving Mother

This past weekend, Judi Bourne was admitted to the ICU at St. Mark's Hospital. On Friday evening, Judi postoperatively suffered from an unexpected respiratory arrest. Mike, who was with her, administered CPR and called an ambulance. Judi was then stabilized in the ICU, intubated, and sedated in a medical coma for three days.

On Monday morning, Judi was taken off the sedatives and woke up. Judi recognizes family members and is able to speak. Judi's diction continues to improve, the swelling in her neck has gone down, she is breathing on her own, and has fair motor skills.

Unfortunately, Judi is experiencing significant short term memory loss. She struggles to remember events from the past few weeks (she does not remember Ashley, Haven, and Brooklyn going back to Minnesota). She does not remember her parent's deaths, her husband being released as stake president, or Emily's pregnancy. However, she is displaying many positive signs and her family members continue to be optimistic.

Updates

We hope to use this blog as a way to keep family and friends updated on Judi's progress. There are many uncertainties at this point, but we will do our best to keep everyone informed as we know of your concern and love for Judi.

The Bourne family would like to thank the many people who have fasted and prayed for Judi. We are grateful for your faith and friendship. We also offer our gratitude to the medical team at St. Mark's who have assisted, and will continue to assist, Judi in her recovery.

To our friends, family and neighbors, we thank you for your love, support, and prayers. We love and appreciate you all.

Many of you have asked how you can help Judi and the family:

- Please do not attempt to visit Judi in the hospital at this time. It is very important for her to rest and focus on therapy.

- If you would like to leave letters, cards, or pictures, there is a basket on the Bourne's front porch (2592 E. Haven Lane) where you can place them. They will be delivered to Judi daily.

- Friends of Judi: Please contact Kris Swenson and Suzy Sorensen

- Ward/ Stake members: Please contact Katty Dowdle

- Family Members: Please contact Cynthia Bourne

- Any other questions may be directed to Susan Spafford

If anyone would like to post on this blog, please contact James Bourne at jbourne269@gmail.com.

IT'S RAINING GRADUATES!!!

You know it's a great year when you have four- count em- four! graduates in your family in one month!!!  Two bachelor's degrees, one Master's and one Doctorate!!!!

Thayne graduated May 3rd with his Bachelor's degree from the University of Utah... Way to go Thayne!!!!!

Katie graduated with her Bachelor's in April but headed out to be with her man and their four legged baby
in Little Rock Arkansas... Congratulations Katie!!!

Emily graduated with her Master's and got to sit  front and center during the festivities!!!  For a blonde you sure are good at math..... Congrats Em!!

We are heading out to New York for Michael's graduation from Medical school in 10 days!
Has it really been four years?! Congratulations Michael.  From your first dissection at age 5 we sorta knew this day would come!!! Way to go after your dreams!!!

James is working hard in San Francisco- working on his Master's and looking for job opportunities in the "biz"...  We miss you Jim-bo- but we know this is your dream!!!

Sophie is finishing up her 7th grade year... It's always a party- with a little bit of pesky homework here and there.  She's doing great-  just picking up a few annoying jr. high habits....
Rumor has it Mike may be graduating from his little 10 year gig around June 16th.  I think a commemorative bandalo is in order.....

Remember- as far as everyone knows- we are a nice, normal family.
Don't go blowin' our cover!!
Love you guys- and so proud of you ALL!!!

Emily and Thayne- Nesting!!

Emily and Thayne have entered "The Nesting Zone"!  They got their darling house on Marie Avenue and have begun to make it a home!  Thayne is super handy.  He's great at overall general destruction, he can lay tile, pull up carpet, remove the asbestos ceiling, sheet rock and paint- all while remaining cool  handsome in the work shirt his father in law made him wear!!!
There is nothing as satisfying as making a "home", and imagining all the years of family and happiness that will surely come.  Congrats to the Davis's!!!!

Weekend in New York!

Mike surprised Ashley with a trip to NYC for their fourth anniversary, and had enough frequent flier miles to get Judi and Sophie out to babysit!!! Our plane arrived in a storm at 3:00 a.m. and at about 6:00 a.m. the welcoming committee in full regalia was ready to play!!!!

We loved the Children's Museum and spent the day there- in Sesame Street, riding trains, shopping at a grocery store, and our favorite spot was the butterfly garden!!

Since it was so stormy we stayed inside and had a pajama party, watched Barbie movies, danced, ordered in pizza, and made a ba-zillion crafts!  Here sweet little Haven is showing us two of her stained glass butterflies that she designed, and cooked all by herself for her new butterfly room!!

This picture will only be funny to those who understand the fact that Sophie has worn our "Bourne To Run" Ragnar relay shirt for the last two years- daily...To Mike and Ashley's horror- here are all three girls in the lovely top!!!!

Sophie and Haven played non stop for two full days... She is such an attentive and fun aunt!  We also discovered that she is "the baby whisperer!"  She could calm Brooklyn and get her to sleep like no one else!!!!!

We love our little angels and can't wait to see them in a short three weeks at their daddy's graduation from Medical School!!

EMILY AND THAYNE'S NEW ARRIVAL!!!!!

Labor and delivery was difficult and lengthy, but in the end it was worth it because Em and Thayne now have a healthy, bouncing baby mortgage with adjoining yard work, taxes and utility costs....  What could make a couple happier?! Apparently nothing, because Em and Thayne have been on cloud nine for weeks!!! They never wanted to leave the area that they spent the first blissful year and a half of their marriage.  They love their ward and all their new friends, the gorgeous park, the proximity of the mountains...They even love the wagon wheel in the front yard- (which out of respect to the pioneers will be reverently removed.....)  I can picture all my dark, blue eyed, over achieving- genius grandchildren scampering politely about the yard in perfectly matching ensembles..... Bring on eternity!!!  Congratulations you guys!!!!
